Movie Review: Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead

As an Amazon Prime member, I have access to lots of free movies that I can watch on my Kindle Fire. This movie is a documentary about Joe Cross who made his money as day trader in Sydney, Austrailia. Joe’s lifestyle was causing him health issues and the medications he was on were not really curing his autoimmune disease. So he decided to take his health to the next level and do a juice fast for 60 days under doctor supervision. Some of his health problems included a skin issue that is similar and different to either psorasis or eczema. It is basically rash that causes burning and pain around the rash site and then welting and blistering of the skin.

The film is really informative about Micronutrients and Macronutrients. It also defines how are plate should really stack up for optimum health instead of what we normally see on the American plate. Dr. Furhman was the doctor of authority on the movie. His emphasis was on making our plates 90% vegetables and 5% protein and 5% carbohydrates.

Joe Cross begins his juice fasting journey in New York City for 30 days and then travels across the country with his juicer hooked up to a battery in the back of his car. I loved the reactions of the people he talked to in the different areas when he told them he had been juice fasting for whatever number of days. I also loved the excuses they made as to why they could not even attempt to do it one day. I think most people are oblivious to what is really happening to their bodies and why the types of foods they are eating are slowly killing them. Over the 60 days you could see Joe’s weight loss and his complexion become clear and glowing. His body was eliminating all of the toxins that had been built up for those many years of abusive eating.

Since making the documentary, Joe has come out with a program called Reboot your life.com. It is a program designed for each individual and helps you to be able to juice fast for 1 day or 10 days. The foods before the juice fast are all micronutrient foods. Micronutrient foods are mostly fruits, vegetables, beans and nuts. Macronutrients foods are all the rest. What the juice fast does is help you to get off all of the processed foods in your diets, including sugar which is just as addictive as cocaine. You can go to the website and read more about the program before actually doing it. If you are on medications of any sort, you need to have doctor approval before doing it.

Just like being vegan, juicing has its place in our diet. To what degree you use it is up to you and how your body reacts to releasing the toxins you have put in there. I know I love my juicer and am usually able to juice about two meals a day without being overly hungry. I do also know that when I juice the two meals and eat a salad and some steamed vegetables that I am able to lose weight easily. But when I transform my food by too much cooking or add a sauce or sugar to the food, my weight goes right back up. Go figure. So as radical as it seems, Joe Cross is on to something with his juice fasting and sticking to a 90% micronutrient diet.

I also beleive you can see this documentary on Hulu.com
